Michael Mudiappa, Dipl. Soz.wiss.

Michael Mudiappa originally worked as a pre-school teacher for a number of years in different educational settings before finishing his degree in Social Sciences with a major in Sociology, Empirical Social Research, Politics and Organizational Psychology at the University of Mannheim. His diploma thesis dealt with the topic "Values and Educational Decisions".

After graduation he was employed as project manager at the department of personal and organizational development in a non-profit social service organization in Stuttgart (2005 to 2006).

From 2007 to 2008 he worked as a research fellow in the project "Educational Aspirations, Reference Groups, and Educational Decisions" at the special research unit 504 ("Rationality Concepts, Decision Behavior, and Economic Modeling") as well as assistant lecturer at the Chair for Sociology and Philosophy of Science (head: Prof. Dr. Hartmut Esser) both at the University of Mannheim.

Since February 2009 he is a research fellow at the BiKS research group ("Education Processes, Competence Development, and Selection Decisions in Pre-school and Primary School Age") at the University of Bamberg. Within the BiKS project his focus lies on the coordination, and planning of the longitudinal study BiKS-8-12.

In the scope of his dissertation project he deals with longitudinal analysis in the research of educational inequality. Especially, he focuses on the relevance of cultural capital in primary and secondary schools.
