Dr. Valerie Martin (currently on maternity leave)

Valerie Martin, PhD, was born in Biberach, Germany in 1975. She received her undergraduate degree at the Ludwigs-Maximilians Universität Munich in 2000. In 2003 she obtained her Diploma in Sociology at the Universität Bielefeld. Her master thesis was on the impact of parental divorce in Canada. After participating at the PhD-program of the McGill University in Montreal (Canada), she obtained her PhD in 2008. She was working on stepfamilies, analyzing stepfamilies from a cross sectional and a longitudinal perspective. The title of her dissertation was: Stepfamilies in Canada: numbers, characteristics, stability and fertility. Her research interest lies in the sociology of the life course, family sociology, international comparison of life courses, as well as in the sociology of social control, social problems and deviance.
